Pike minnows
Formerly known as the Squaw Fish, I posted a topic in relation to these fish under the misc. category, Was wondering if anyone has any idea on the tactis use for these fish and if they make any good table fair, I remember catching these fish when I was younger, but more of it out of coincidence fishing for bluegills.

Re: Pike minnows
I usually catch them by twitching streamers through lilly pads. I caught one dead drifting a woolybugger on the upswing. Don't know how they taste but I have been told they taste like perch.

Re: Pike minnows
They're pretty good smoke, and they also have been known to hit spinners, but the best method to catch these fish that works down here are the standard worms. they can also get pretty big, hopefully im talking about the same squawfish you have in mind, i know we label alot of fish with slang names and terms.

Re: Pike minnows
Up here on the north end of the Snake River I've caught them on spinners, bass plugs and poppers. There is a bounty on Pike Minnows because they feed on the Steelhead smolts trying to get downstream to the sea. There are some folks who target them and make enough money off the bounty paid to pay for their summer fishing. I think most of them use worms and cut bait.
I've never tried to eat one. I think the ones harvested for bounty wind up as fertilizer. They do get pretty big and they do put up a good fight.
